We are pleased to inform you that last week our school conducted a comprehensive Child Safety Audit, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to creating a safe physical environment for all students.

This audit aligns with the Child Safe Standards set by the Victorian Government, which outline key principles to ensure schools are proactive in promoting child wellbeing, preventing harm, and responding effectively to any concerns. These standards are central to our Catholic values and our responsibility to uphold the safety of every child in our care.

Throughout the audit, we reviewed our physical spaces and practices to identify any areas for improvement. Where concerns or gaps were noted, our Child Safety Team will be following up with targeted actions to ensure they are addressed promptly and thoroughly.

We would also like to extend our thanks to the students who participated in the audit process. Their insights, cooperation, and leadership on the day were invaluable and deeply appreciated.

Together, we continue to build a school community where every student feels safe, respected, and supported.

Help Shape the Future of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ – New Survey Launching Soon!

At Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, we believe that every voice matters. As we embark on our journey guided by the One Pace Beyond 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, we are excited to announce the launch of a new School Improvement Survey—and we want to hear from you!

This survey is a key step in our commitment to being:

  • Intentionally Connected – strengthening relationships, wellbeing and belonging through reimagined systems and partnerships.
  • Bravely Ambitious – renewing learning design and inspiring lives of purpose within and beyond the classroom.
  • Thriving Change Agents – leading with inclusion, student voice, and ethical use of digital technologies.

Ìý

Survey Launch: Tuesday 5th August

We’ve partnered with leading research agency McCrindle to gather feedback through the Thriving Schools Index, which explores:

  • Student Development
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Student Wellbeing
  • Schooling Experience
  • Connection and Belonging
  • Leadership

For Parents and Carers

You’ll receive a link to the survey on Tuesday 5th August. It takes just 10 minutes, is anonymous, and can be completed on any device. Your insights will help us make informed decisions that reflect the aspirations and needs of our community.

For Students

Students will be given time during Wellbeing on Wednesday 6th August to complete the survey. It’s a chance to share what’s working, what could be better, and how we can continue to grow together.

For Everyone

This is more than a survey—it’s an invitation. Whether you’re a parent, carer, student or staff member, your voice matters. We are committed to listening and learning from all who make Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ the vibrant, welcoming place it is.

We also hold close the value of hospitality, welcoming all with warmth and openness. This survey is one way we extend that welcome—inviting you to share your voice and help shape our shared future.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Let’s shape the future of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ—together.

The Trustees of Kildare Ministries have been courageous in their leadership for justice not just for people but for the whole of creation. Last week leaders from the ten Kildare Ministries Colleges around Australia gathered at Saltbush in Balnarring for a three day retreat led by Pat Long to explore the notion of ecological conversion. It was both fulfilling and challenging and provided several experiences that we can bring back to the College for students. This work aligns to our own strategic commitments:Ìý

  • Creating experience to inspire lives of purpose and mission through faith, justice and peaceÌý
  • Offering opportunities that promote the interconnectedness of humanity with natureÌý

We thank our Sustainability Student Leaders working with Craig Canning who recently facilitated a week of activities to raise awareness around sustainability. Each RE class has been working towards ensuring there is some form of connection with nature in their fortnightly cycles. We are also currently planning opportunities for students and staff to take part in a pilgrimage walk for later in the year to celebrate the Jubilee Year. This will be another intentional way of creating this sense of connection.Ìý

Do you know a Big Picture Learner?Ìý

A special thank you to those families and students who recently joined us for our introduction of Big Picture Learning to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. There was a positive buzz in the room with lots of curiosity and interest. Expressions of interest are now open for students who will be in Year 9 or 10 in 2026 to apply for a place in a Big Picture advisory class – . There will be 17 students in each advisory with one advisory at each of these year levels. A ‘come and try’ day will be held early in Term 3. Details to follow.Ìý Ìý

We know that there will be students in other schools or perhaps not in school who would thrive in this environment. We encourage you to share this information with friends and family who may not be currently at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and may have a daughter who might be suited to this style of learning.Ìý

Expressions of Interest will close on Friday 1 August with interviews to commence the following week. We look forward to embarking on this new venture putting our learners at the centre of all we do here at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.Ìý

Should you require further information please explore our website Big Picture Learning – Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, or contact Jo Ryan Assistant Principal.Ìý

Today I had the pleasure of handing out our first Study Passports to some of our Year 9 students. To receive a study passport, student must demonstrate that they are operating at a high level of personal agency as demonstrated through the New Metrics competency framework. Students with a study passport can choose where they study including the Brigidine or Oak Centre. This is the next step in building independent study habits as they move towards the senior years.Ìý

Tomorrow 198 of our senior students will sit the General Achievement Test (GAT). To facilitate this tomorrow is a pupil free day. All students not sitting the exam are not required at school. Teaching staff use this day as a Professional Practice Day to support them with planning, marking, reporting and curriculum development.Ìý

Week 10 will be our midyear exam week for Year 10 and 11. Below are some tips from the help of Co Pilot AI to help support your daughters through this time:Ìý

  1. Create a Study Schedule:Ìý Help create a study schedule that breaks down their study time into manageable chunks. This can help them stay organized and reduce last-minute cramming.Ìý
  1. Provide a Quiet Study Environment: If possible create a quiet, comfortable place to study, free from distractions. This can help them focus better and retain information more effectively.Ìý
  1. Encourage Regular Breaks: Encourage regular breaks during study sessions. Short breaks can help them stay refreshed and prevent burnout.Ìý
  1. Promote Healthy Eating: Encourage nutritious meals and snacks. A balanced diet can improve concentration and energy levels.Ìý
  1. Ensure Adequate Sleep: Make sure your daughter gets enough sleep each night. Lack of sleep can negatively impact their ability to concentrate and perform well on exams.Ìý
  1. Stay Positive and Supportive: Offer words of encouragement and support. Let them know that you believe in their abilities and are proud of their efforts.Ìý
  1. Practice Relaxation Techniques: Relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, to help manage stress and anxiety.Ìý
  1. Limit Screen Time: Encourage limits to social media, to avoid distractions and maintain focus on their studies.Ìý

We wish all our students well as they test their knowledge and efforts from the first semester of the year.Ìý

This is my final blog before commencing my leave on Friday. I am very grateful to the Kildare Education Ministries Board for supporting me to take this leave. I look forward to the learning, renewal and time of rest. Jo Ryan will be Acting Principal in my absence, and I wish the Leadership Team every blessing as they continue to lead the College over the next nine weeks.Ìý

Ìý

BlessingsÌý

From 2025 and beyond at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, we aim to be Bravely Ambitious. One way we are doing this is by intentionally cultivating dispositions and competencies to thrive in a complex world. One action we are taking with our year 9 cohort is to teach them study skills to support flipped learning and their study days.

This new initiative is aimed at enhancing the study skills of our Year 9 students. I recently presented the first lecture in this series and received a positive response from both students and teachers.

During the lecture, we covered crucial topics such as understanding oneself as a learner, effective notetaking, and summarising techniques. Students were guided on how to apply these strategies to their daily study routines, helping them to become more efficient and confident learners.

This lecture is just the beginning. There will be six more throughout the year, each scheduled before a study day. The topics for these upcoming lectures will be developed in consultation with the Year 9 team and the students themselves, ensuring that the content is relevant and beneficial.

The goal of these lectures is to prepare our Year 9 students for the challenges of their senior years. Year 9 teachers have incorporated the techniques covered into their assessments and class tasks. Students have also responded enthusiastically, already beginning to use the strategies in their studies.

We look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of our Year 9 students as they apply these valuable study skills.
