After winning the GISSA senior soccer tournament the team went through to the Football Victoria Premier Schools Cups – All Schools State Championships, after an outstanding performance in the pool games the girls finished top of the table and made it in to the semifinal against Carey Grammer, after a thrilling game that ended in penalties. The girls kicked all 5 penalties putting us through to the grand final against St Monica College.

This is the first time ĢƵ has had a soccer team make through to the grand final and we couldn’t be more excited for the team to have made it this far.

The girls travelled back up to the Home of the Matilda’s to face St Monica College, after a tight first half (0-0) the girls unfortunately went down 4-0. Regardless of the result we couldn’t be prouder of our senior team for making it all the way, this accomplishment marks a significant milestone for all students involved, especially given the tournaments competitive field. The passion and teamwork the girls displayed already made them winners in our eyes!

Opening term 2, Ms Dalton with the help of the coaches worked to establish three teams of girls to represent ĢƵ at the Interschool Sports Aerobic competition in Melbourne. Students both new and experienced worked together to develop and refine their routines over two terms in preparation for the competition.

Sports aerobics is one of the very few school sports that requires ongoing commitment and perseverance from students to produce routines that are fit for competition. Students demonstrated their abilities to adapt and collaborate excellently, both at training and rehearsal while progressing through their routines. This time shared also allowed fun and laughter between all year levels, working alongside friends and peers sharing the same passion!

A special mention and Thank You to Ms Dalton for her organisation and support, throughout this time and Thank You to our coaches, (Bailee and Natalie) for their support, guidance and encouragement throughout this process.

Thank You to all students, for their dedication and efforts throughout this time, a truly outstanding achievement! A big Congratulations to all students, where two of three teams placed 1st in their categories. Well done everyone, a fabulous result for all!

Lily and Mila B (Year 7) competed in the interschool Snowsports last week.

The girls unfortunately missed out on a podium finish for ĢƵ. But they were fast enough to qualify for Nationals.

Mila has qualified for Snowboard cross and Giant slalom and Lily has qualified for Giant slalom.

The Nationals were held Wednesday and Thursday last week at Mount Buller where they once again represented ĢƵ.

Lily and Mila were against some very tough competition but did an amazing job representing ĢƵ.

Lily came 37th, Lily had a nervous first 1st run, but she was amazing how she pulled herself together to shave a lot of time in her second run.

Mila put down two very solid runs to finish 28th which is awesome. Mila was only 5/6 seconds off the podium.

Mila was in Boader-cross on Thursday, Mila’s run was amazing, she came 20th which again not far off the pace, only 4 seconds split 1-20th place,

We are extremely proud of Lily and Mila’s achievements; we look forward to seeing the girls compete next year!

On the school holidays Lucy and Anastazia competed at the Emerging Matilda’s Championship in NSW for Football Victoria’s U16 Victoria white team.We were there for a week competing against all the other states, to try to win the trophy and to become the best state in Australia. The reason for this tournament is to hopefully get seen by Football Australia scouts and get picked to represent Australia in further Matilda’s camps and squads.

On Friday, 28 March, we held our annual Athletics Carnival at Landy Field. We were blessed with warm weather and an incredible turnout, which unfortunately meant we ran out of time for presentations at the end of the day. Still, the atmosphere was electric, with students eagerly participating in a wide range of events.

The High Jump was especially popular, with long queues forming as students pushed themselves to new heights. Across the field, students threw their support behind their House leaders, showcasing great spirit and determination. Participation was strong across the board, with all students required to register for events ahead of the day — a change that helped things run smoothly and encouraged wider involvement.

Our Year 12 students truly embraced the spirit of the day, donning all sorts of creative costumes for their final Athletics Carnival. The traditional run down the 100-metre strip was a highlight, featuring everything from inflatable cartoon characters to princesses — a truly memorable and entertaining sight.

A huge thank you goes to our student leaders, who did a brilliant job encouraging House participation and fostering a fun, competitive spirit. It was a wonderful day of athleticism, House pride, and community.

Two records were broken on the day, both by Leah B in Year 10. She set a new record in the 100 metres and also broke a 19-year-old record in the Year 10 Long Jump — an outstanding achievement!

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the ĢƵ Gift Championship could not be run. Instead, the title was awarded to the top-ranked 100-metre sprinter on the day — congratulations to Leah B (Year 10) on receiving this honour.

Finian once again won the Championship.

A huge thank you to all the staff for their continued support and work behind the scenes in getting the many jobs done to ensure the athletics carnival is a success. Congratulations also the Student Leaders who help the many students out for a smooth running of the day and fielding the many relay teams.

On Tuesday, March 18 ĢƵ’s team maintained its proud heritage as the only school to have ever claimed the GISSA Girls Senior Futsal championship.

The follow-up to last’s years inaugural victory could not have been more impressive. Grouped with five other Geelong schools, ĢƵ immediately stamped its mark on the tournament with a resounding 8-0 win in the opening match versus Iona College.

Anastazia S took up right where she left off in last year’s comp by bagging five of the goals.

Saint Ignatius was next to succumb to the ĢƵ onslaught in a 13-0 rout. Three of our squad (of just eight girls) were Year 9 students who never took a backwards step whilst playing predominantly against Year 12 opponents. One of them, Finn S announced herself a star of the future with a goal in the opening match but when she added five more against Saint Ignatius, it became obvious she is a star of the now. Her year level colleague Isy E filled a key role as a midfield harrier, helping to protect our defence, while Vivienne C looked like she’d been playing forever and showed she could play in any position with equal impact, in doing so claiming a starting role in later matches.

The victories kept coming – 5-0 v Kardinia and 6-0 v Covenant College. After four matches we were yet to concede a goal, which was not terribly surprising with our “Rocks of Gibraltar” – co-captains Piper S (in goal) and Zoe S – protecting our goal mouth. Zoe also managed to find the net eight times at the other end throughout the day. It was already obvious that our final group match – versus Christian College – would be a Grand Final preview. It was a dead rubber (and Christian College played dead, leaving out several players) but our girls carried on regardless beating them 7-1.

Christian College showed up for the Grand Final with all players and all guns blazing. It was – by far – the quickest, most intense, and most competitive match of the tournament. The ĢƵ girls withstood an early onslaught and then took care of business as they had done all day. Anastazia S scored her fourth hat trick of the day when it mattered most and her sister, Lucy, continued her dynamic role as the team’s midfield engine alongside Hannah G who grafted to good effect all day and popped up with a couple of goals. Through their combined efforts our team ran out 7-2 winners to claim the championship.

Results:

Group Matches

ĢƵ 8 v Iona 0 (Anastazia 5, Lucy 1, Finn 1, Zoe 1)
ĢƵ 13 v Saint Ignatius (Hannah 1, Anastazia 2, Zoe 3, Finn 5, Lucy 2)
ĢƵ 5 v Kardinia 0 (Anastazia 4, Finn 1)
ĢƵ 6 v Covenant College 0 (Anastazia 4, Zoe 1, Hannah 1)
ĢƵ 7 v Christian College 1 (Zoe 1, Lucy 2, Anastazia 2, Finn 1, Vivienne 1)

Grand Final

ĢƵ 7 v Christian College 2 (Anastazia 3, Zoe 2, Lucy 1, Vivienne 1)

Piper and Zoe collected the pennant on behalf of the College. Zoe won her second consecutive player of the tournament medal and Anastazia was the leading scorer (as she was last year) with 20 goals for the day.

All the girls not only played excellently but behaved impeccably, too.
