The Pre-Voc students had the opportunity to attend Street Art X at the Geelong Tech School on Tuesday 13 June.Ìý This was a trial run for Geelong Tech School and they asked us to be the first to test this new subject.Ìý Naturally, we were very excited. We visited Little Malop Street to snap pictures of the surroundings and the street art. After lunch, we learned how to use an app called Photo Shop and created our own, amazing works of art which are presented below. We are so grateful for this opportunity and everything we learned throughout the day.Ìý

Last week, the Year 12 VCAL students navigated around the city to various landmarks to embark on a variety of challenges.
Students tasted chocolate at Haigh’s, recited Harry Potter quotes at the Princes Theatre, sketched self portraits by the Yarra and viewed the city from above at the Eureka Skydeck!
It was lots of fun and a great opportunity for students to successfully put their numeracy skills into action.

The Year 11 VCAL class is currently conducting a Book Drive for the students at Bishop Epalle Catholic School, Honiara in the Solomon Islands.

A past Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ parent reached out to us, knowing that we have organised a successful Book Swap in 2021. She has deep connections in the Solomon Islands after living and working there for many years. It was explained to the students that although their schools are well resourced with educational texts, the schools often DO NOT have a library and the students DO NOT have the opportunity to simply borrow a book for the simple LOVE of reading.

Tuesday, saw the launch of the Book Drive for the Solomon Islands!

Our aim is to give the love of reading to the students. We would love to see your support in giving our neighbours in the Solomon Islands the opportunity to dive into the joy of reading!

Please consider donating your good quality, unwanted fiction books to the book drive. Books need to be suitable for secondary school aged students and can be dropped off in the donation bins located in the library, staff room and main office fromÌý16 to 25 August.

As part of VET Creative Industries studies Year 11 VCAL students engaged in a workshop with Karen a local business owner of Sopo Candles. Karen spent the morning teaching students how to make their own soy candles and blend fragrances to create their own unique candles. Karen shared with the students the steps that need to be included in creating your own candle business and ideas the students need to consider. The class will be working next term to create their own creative candle business to sell to the school community. Stay tuned to access opportunities to support young up-and-coming entrepreneurs in their candle sales!

Victoria’s senior secondary education is changing. From 2023, most students will study the VCE. That’s because the VCE will include the Vocational Major, a 2-year program that sits within the VCE. There will also be the Victorian Pathways Certificate for those who need flexibility in their learning.

From 2023, the new VCE Vocational Major will replace Intermediate and Senior VCAL and in addition, the new Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) will replace Foundation VCAL. This means the VCE will recognise different students equally. It must be noted that the VPC supports students to Year 12 but is not a Senior Certificate. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ will switch to delivering VCE Vocational Major (VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) from 2023.

As a result of these changes, students will have more education choices and opportunities to prepare them for their preferred future of further study, training at TAFE or work.

At Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ we also uniquely offer a program known as PreVoc (formerly PreCAL). PreVoc is an applied learning program offered to Year 10 students to better prepare students for a pathway that leads them into the VCE-Vocational Major (VCE-VM) or the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), whilst also giving them a range of practical and vocational skills and experiences.

For more information you can visit True North or go to

To find out more information about PreVoc, VCE-VM and VPC, please contact Sarah Clark (VPC Leader) and Gab Mahon (Careers Counsellors) are also available at the College to answer questions and to support students as they make decisions about their final years at school.

The Year 11 VCAL students are currently fundraising much needed funds and items for local charity group, Geelong Mums.

Geelong Mums provide essential items to local mums and children to help give them the best start in life. All items are donated and then re-homed to mums and children in need.

Geelong Mums not only helps local mums, but are also part of the growing ‘circular economy’ by rehoming items that would often end up in landfill.

If you would like to donate, the Year 11 VCAL students have set-up donation boxes around the college, including the staffroom, library, and school office, where you can drop off one of the products listed on the boxes, including (but not limited to):

Our Year 10 PreCAL class have been working hard designing and implementing an ANZAC Remembrance Garden along the Church Street boundary of the College.

They have spent time deciding where best to lay their handmade mosaic stepping stones, with consideration to the College’s Master Planning involving a new entrance point to the school in the future.

The Garden will be an exciting legacy for this class.
