Poetry Workshops with Emilie Zoey Baker

On Monday May 6, Year 7 students were fortunate to have poetry workshops with renowned performance poet, Emilie Zoey Baker. The workshops were really engaging for the students, who were taught a range of poetic techniques, as well as how to process ideas into a poem, in a fun and enlightening manner. Students wrote a poem on a given theme and were able to get up and perform their ‘slam poems’ to the class, in a supportive and encouraging environment. It is hoped that Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ will field a team of slam poets to compete in the Australian schools Poetry Slam competition in Melbourne this August. Ms Baker is a dynamic poet who knows how to engage and foster creativity in students, and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ year seven English team was thrilled to welcome her back to the school to present the poetry workshops.
